Consulting and Planning
When planning their website, most people go straight to a designer but there's a lot to consider before your website is built.
Have you given consideration to any of the following?
- Some possible domain names which are relevant to your business.
- Your target market and buyer/visitor personas.
- The goal of your website - are you looking to sell products or services or to generate leads?
- The mind set of your ideal visitor and what their likely searches are going to be.
One of the biggest challenges that I face as a web developer is dealing with extremely vague requests. I strongly suggest that you take the time to think through what you require and write it down before approaching someone like me.
And here's your incentive...
It will save you time and money because the work gets done more quickly and there's less likelihood of errors being made. It saddens me regularly to hear examples of projects where developers have quit midstream, leaving the customer with an unfinished site and often out of pocket. In many instances this occurs due to misunderstandings and vague communication.
Don't let this happen to you!
If you're finding it difficult to describe, sometimes providing an example of a site that has a similar look or functionality will do the trick.
